  • Overview

    The Building Envelope Consultant will be expected to support the Raba Kistner Building Envelope Observation, Assessment, Design and Consulting capabilities. 


    The Building Envelope Consultant will be responsible for contributing to the Building Envelope Consulting Services profit center through active participation in projects and interfacing with clients.  This will be accomplished by acting as a Project Building Envelope Consultant and Project Manager on observation, construction administration and design teams for property developers, public and private sector owners, institutional entities, consulting engineers, contractors, materials suppliers, financial institutions and insurance companies.


    Operationally, the Building Envelope Consultant will assist in client development and project duties, ranging from building envelope observations and reports, building envelope condition surveys, building envelope system design, and production of construction drawings, details, and technical specifications.  He will support the firm’s objectives of meeting our clients’ needs and expectations in a timely manner while achieving his individual utilization targets and the Unit’s profit objectives.


    Additionally, the Building Envelope Consultant will provide other activities as needed by the Building Envelope Consulting Services Group, including field and office duties, CADD support, report and graphic preparation. 



    • Serves as Building Envelope Consultant and Project Coordinator on building envelope consulting and design work
    • Performs building envelope field testing, observation and assessment services
    • Analyzes field data, laboratory test results, and performs calculations necessary for completion of technical reports
    • Submits draft building envelope observation reports for review and final reports for co-signature by senior staff members
    • Reviews design and survey documents as needed
    • Other duties as assigned by Direct Report


    • Reviews pre-billing invoices as required
    • Recommends project purchases, as required, with approval of the Direct Report
    • Within the first six-month period, achieve average utilization goal of not less that 85 percent 


    • Notifies Direct Report, Director, and Facilities Leader of all potential disputes that may lead to legal claims or litigation


    • Minimum 3 years of building envelope observations, assessments, design and contract administration
    • Registered Roofing Consultant (RRC) or Registered Waterproofing Consultant (RWC) designation desired, but not a requirement
    • Ability to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain
    • Good verbal communication skills to successfully interact with clients and staff
    • Good verbal communication and comprehension skills are a necessity to prevent costly and time-consuming problems
    • Good written communication skills for preparing proposals, reports, and other technical documents
    • Good organizational skills to utilize firm resources efficiently and effectively
    • Possess valid Texas driver’s license and meet company’s auto insurability requirements
    • Walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and repeated bending as needed while working on job sites
    • Distinguish colors and shades of color for identification and analysis
    • Heavy lifting and carrying (45+ lbs) of tools and equipment
    • Ability to comply with attendance and tardiness requirements as noted in the most current edition of the Corporate Policy Manual

    Working Conditions:

    • Works in a normal office environment, and works outside subjected to job site weather conditions, including rooftop work
    • Potential exposure to moving heavy-equipment on construction sites and hazards of dangerous chemical/solvent exposure.  Comply with all site-specific safety procedures and requirements
    • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, grease, oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration
    • May work protracted or irregular hours due to client needs
    • Occupational safety and health 40-hour training course or ability to pass such course
    • Work related responsibilities require travel out of town to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations

    Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, random, and reasonable cause testing during employment.
