  • Overview

    The Project Manager/Engineer in Training’s primary responsibility is to act as a project manager on San Antonio CoMET Projects.  These duties include reviewing project documents, project set-up, technical review of observation and testing reports, review of  billing and  invoices, client  communication reviewing field and laboratory engineering reports, performing construction materials testing (CoMET) engineering investigations and studies dealing with construction related issues in a timely and accurate manner within the specified budget.  Duties will also include coordinating and participating in field observations; classification and characterization of construction materials’ physical properties; assignment of laboratory and field tests; interpretation of engineering data; performing engineering calculations and the preparation of engineering reports.  Secondary responsibilities include supporting the geotechnical engineering activities in the field and preparation of reports. 


    Additional important responsibilities include: marketing and selling consulting and testing services; the efficient and economical use of company resources in the analyses and solution of engineering problems; preparation of forensic, engineering and test reports; managing assigned personnel; preparation of proposals including scoping and pricing; and training and monitoring of construction materials technicians in the laboratory and field. 


    In addition to technical and project related responsibilities, the CoMET Project Manager/Engineer in Training may also support the timely preparation of accurate invoices and participate in collection activities.


    The CoMET Project Manager/Engineer in Training must possess good oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills to be effective in dealing with fellow staff members, clients and the general public. 



    • Serves as CoMET Project Manager/Engineer in Training, on Engineering and CoMET projects including project management from the beginning to the end of the project
    • Completes projects and reports in a timely and accurate manner within the specified budget
    • Provides mentorship and professional development to other professional, technical, clerical and support staff members
    • Performs CoMET consulting activities as required on company projects, and working in unison with staff members in San Antonio and other offices
    • Coordinates materials testing activities with subcontractors and Raba Kistner’s field and laboratory staff
    • Possess knowledge of the testing procedures used in a geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory (ASTM, AASTHO, USCOE, etc.)
    • Prepares laboratory-testing assignments on projects in accordance with the testing program established in the proposal
    • Analyzes field data, laboratory test results, performs engineering calculations for completion of client reports
    • Submits draft materials testing/geotechnical engineering reports for review and final reports for co-signature of assigned staff members
    • Possess a competent understanding of construction plans and specifications, as well as good accepted engineering practices to be used in the review of assigned engineering reports and construction documents
    • Performs field observation services in support of the CoMET activities, as well as for forensic investigations
    • Assists the San Antonio office in expanding the scope and technological level of excellence currently provided in our engineering, environmental and construction materials services
    • Provide a leadership role in expanding our professional practice into the San Antonio, market. Work with the Direct Report and Corporate Development in coordinating San Antonio office business development programs
    • Understand, adhere and participate in the Raba Kistner Health and Safety and Behavior Based Safety Programs and set a good safety example
    • Other duties as assigned by Direct Report


    • Reviews and approves pre-bill invoices on CoMET projects and others as required
    • Contacts and follows up with Clients on invoicing and status of payment
    • Within the first six-month period, achieves average chargeability goal of not less than 75 percent


    • Prepares proposals and Statements of Qualifications, and performs indirect marketing activities in dealings with Clients
    • Actively participates in specific technical and/or professional organizations approved by Direct Report
    • Assist in direct marketing as described in the San Antonio marketing plan


    • Immediately notifies Direct Report and Chairman of the Board of all potential disputes that may lead to legal claims or litigation
    • As requested, supports Chairman of the Board to settle disputes or defend against litigation


    • Possess EIT license for States of Texas and Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
    • Excellent oral communication skills to interact with clients and staff successfully. Speaking with clarity and understanding skills are a necessity to prevent costly and time-consuming problems
    • Excellent written communication skills for preparing proposals, reports, and other engineering documents
    • Presents a professional appearance to best represent the company
    • Organizational skills to utilize company resources efficiently and effectively
    • Possess valid Texas driver’s license and meet company’s auto insurability requirements
    • Heavy lifting and carrying (45+ lbs.) of tools and equipment
    • Ability to travel to project sites and maneuvers over rough and uneven terrain
    • Walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and repeated bending as needed while working on sites
    • Distinguish colors and shades of color for identification and analysis
    • Ability to drive company vehicle, manage and complete all assigned jobs, efficiently and on time 


    • Works in a normal office environment as well as outside, which is subject to varying weather conditions
    • Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction sites and hazards of dangerous chemical/solvents exposure that may require proper safety procedures be followed
    • Potential for exposure to noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and equipment vibration
    • May work on ladders and in confined spaces
    • May work protracted or irregular hours
    • Ability to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain
    • Work related responsibilities require travel out of town to Raba-Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations

    Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, random, and reasonable cause testing during employment.
