The San Antonio Geotechnical Engineering Department - Project Manager, will be the manager of the greater San Antonio geotechnical engineering service department, and be the senior “seller-doer” for this service line in the greater San Antonio region.  The Project Manager responsibilities encompass all the activities required to grow and effectively conduct Raba Kistner Consultants, Inc. (RKCI) geotechnical engineering business in the greater San Antonio region.  These responsibilities include developing new and enhancing existing relationships with clients and influencers, building and managing an effective Geotechnical Engineering Team, preparing scopes of work and proposals, developing project plans, conducting and overseeing the San Antonio region geotechnical engineering services and acting as the project manager for geotechnical projects performed by the office.  The Project Manager will have the profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities for the Projects that he/she manages.



  • Serves as Project Manager/Senior Geotechnical Engineer on all assigned geotechnical engineering projects to ensure reports are technically correct and budgets and schedules are met
  • Serves as Project Manager for assigned projects
  • Directs and supervises field-logging activities if engineering supervision is required during drilling operations
  • Coordinates drilling activities with subcontractors and RKCI’s field staff
  • Oversees classification of soil samples in the laboratory
  • Oversees laboratory-testing assignments on projects in accordance with the testing program established in the proposal
  • Analyzes field data, laboratory test results and performs calculations necessary for completion of engineering reports
  • Coordinates preparation of geotechnical engineering reports for review and determines quality of final reports
  • Has shared responsibility to coordinate, as required, with other divisions or consultants for project support
  • Monitors product quality, design and technology to assure consistency with contractual agreements
  • Provides mentorship and professional development to other professional, technical, clerical and support staff employees.(12)        Provides input to the Profit Center Leader to whom, why, and amount of discretionary bonuses are to be distributed in the Geotechnical Engineering Department


  • Assists in department’s annual budget and provides leadership in its attainment
  • Reviews and approves prebilling invoices on projects for which the engineer is assigned
  • Contacts and follows up with Clients on invoicing and status of payment
  • Within a three-month period, achieves average billing level of not less than 60 percent


  • Prepares proposals and Statements of Qualifications, and conducts business development activities
  • Actively participates in specific technical and/or professional organizations as determined by Direct Report


  • Immediately notifies Direct Report and Chief Operating Officer of all potential disputes that may lead to legal claims or litigation
  • As requested, supports Chairman of the Board to settle disputes or defend against litigation


  • Understand, adhere and participate in the Raba Kistner Health and Safety and Behavior Based Safety Programs and set a good safety example
  • Other duties as assigned by Direct Report 


  • Professional Engineer’s license for State of Texas. Hold an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of appropriate Geotechnical Engineering experience, or Master’s Degree with a minimum of 8 years appropriate Geotechnical Engineering experience
  • Experience with expansive soil and heave prediction
  • Experience with shallow and deep foundations, and over-consolidated clays
  • Experience with global stability analyses and evaluations
  • Experience with local geology and geotechnical aspects of growth faults
  • Experience with pavement section design (public and private)
  • Experience on large breadth of projects ranging from small single story structures to mid to high-rise level construction
  • Experience with horizontal Civil Works projects including pipeline and transportation projects
  • Written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with clients and staff successfully, clarity and understanding are a high priority to prevent costly and time-consuming errors
  • Good writing skills for preparing proposals, reports, and other engineering documents
  • Organizational skills to utilize company resources efficiently and effectively
  • Shall possess valid Texas driver’s license and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements
  • Heavy lifting and carrying (45+ lbs.) of tools and equipment
  • Distinguish colors and shades of color for identification and analysis
  • Presents a professional appearance to best represent the company
  • Ability to comply with all attendance requirements as noted in most current edition of Corporate Policy Manual


  • Works in a normal office environment as well as outside areas that are subject to varying weather conditions
  • Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction sites and hazards of dangerous chemical/solvents exposure that may require proper safety procedures be followed
  • Potential for exposure to noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and equipment vibration
  • May work on ladders and in confined spaces
  • May work protracted or irregular hours due to client company needs
  • Ability to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain
  • May work on weekends/holidays and out-of-town projects
  • Work related responsibilities require travel out of town to RKCI’s, client offices, and project locations

Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, random, and reasonable cause testing during employment.
